William Caldwell McChord was born in Springfield, Kentucky, July 3, 1850, the younger of two children born to Dr. Robert C. and Laura (Hynes) McChord. McChord attended Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. He began practicing law in 1874, when he was elected as the county attorney for Washington County.
